A Florida woman’s friend lied about her weight to go parasailing, joking that ‘she threw out an Ariana Grande’
Some people tell lies, thinking they’re nothing more than harmless falsehoods. But Paje Sinopa (@pajesinopa) recalled one time a friend told an unbelievable lie about her weight. What could have easily become a tragedy turned out to have a hilarious ending.
Sinopa, who’s from Florida, described herself as an adventurous person, having experienced skydiving, mechanical bull riding, kayaking, and the like. During an island trip, she decided to go parasailing for fun.
She asked her other friends if they’d wanted to go but were reluctant. Sinopa was about to go alone when one of the girls—a friend of a friend—told her she wanted to go. She warned Sinopa that she wasn’t the best swimmer, was afraid of heights, and was easily frightened.
Sinopa dismissed the warning and dragged her friend along. But when they got to the location, she saw that there was a weight limit to the activity.
She told a big lie
“I’m six feet tall and thicker than a swamp,” Sinopa explained. She further explained that her friends were also big, beautiful women. But because the activity had a weight limit, she started doing the math.
Although she didn’t know how much the other girl weighed, she guessed that her friend was heavier.
“How much do you weigh?” the man asked her friend. Unexpectedly, her friend lied about her weight.
“She threw out like an Ariana Grande weight,” Sinopa accused, emphasizing the severity of the lie.
Sinopa was terrified at this point, saying that she still has a dog to come home to. Thankfully, the man scanned her friend and had his own doubts. Then, he asked Sinopa her weight.
“I took my weight and added 75 pounds,” Sinopa said. She could have told the truth, but because her friend allegedly refused to, she inflated her weight so that the ride would be safe. Confused by their answers, the man in charge decided to check the weather.
The weight limit for parasailing tends to be weight-dependent, and some rides would require ideal wind conditions so that the gear can handle the maximum weight limit.
“We threw this man for a loop. She’s throwing out Ariana Grande, I’m throwing out extra Grande,” Sinopa joked. By the end of it, the man sent Sinopa and her friend on separate parasailing flights. Sinopa was relieved by his decision, and they both sailed without a hitch.
Sinopa said that her friend enjoyed the ride so much that she was ready for another adventure right after. The only problem is that she couldn’t stop lying about her weight.
She’s still throwing the Ariana Grande weight around
Sinopa started throwing suggestions for their next activity, but the woman had an idea of her own.
“I want to ride a horse,” her friend told her. Sinopa was hesitant because she knew this activity had a weight limit as well. Just as she’d suspected, this activity also had a limit. Sinopa assumed that her bigger friend would not be able to.
“I wasn’t going to tell her this because I didn’t want to be a rude [expletive],” Sinopa said. She even used her fake weight again from the last activity in an attempt to dissuade the woman. But her friend was hell-bent on riding.
“That’s not fair to the horse,” Sinopa said, calling it animal abuse. But the woman insisted, so she told the staff her made-up Ariana Grande-esque weight.
“Okay, just to check, we’re going to have you step on the scale,” the lady in charge of the counter said. Sinopa and her friend looked around for a scale, and it wasn’t a regular scale.
It was a horse scale. Her friend was offended by the suggestion, calling it offensive. She eventually walked away.
“I would have keeled over and died,” Sinopa commented. But even the most chaotic adventures could turn out for the better.
