Have you been closing cereal the wrong way your whole life? Woman whips out a box of Fruity Pebbles and shows the ‘right’ way

Cereal is a breakfast staple among many people. It’s a convenient meal where you choose your favorite flavor, dump it in a bowl, and add your milk. Once it’s time to close the box, you may fold the flaps and slide them under the seal tab. After all, that’s what most of us have been taught, right?

But this woman imparts knowledge on an alternative method she discovered.

Closing Cereal Box Demonstration In Action

Arkansas-based mother Brooklyn (@brooklyn.pillow) stands in her kitchen, turning a box of Fruity Pebbles with the top flaps folded in a rectangular prism shape, which is nothing like what we’re used to.

“Unbelievable,” she says, amazed as she showcases the box from several angles. “I don’t know why the cereal boxes don’t come with instructions on but I’m about to show you.”

Then, the content creator has the open cereal box placed on the counter sideways, holding the two small side flaps. “Tuck your sides in,” Brooklyn instructs. Next, she turns the box so the back is facing the camera, pulls out the larger tab and folds it inward.

“This piece right here, you also tuck in,” she explains. “Once these three are tucked in, you push the corners in.” When the mother presses the back inside, it folds upward, creating a small space between the folded part and the top part. “You literally just take this last piece and you push it through,” she states, folding the top part to seal it.

“Boom. You’re welcome,” Brooklyn concludes.

“I was today years old when I found out the proper way to fold a cereal box,” she writes in the caption.

Viewers Ran To Their Kitchens

Brooklyn’s video amassed 7.4 million views since it was posted on Jan. 8. Many hurried to their cupboards to try this out themselves.

“Excuse me, WHAT?! Trying tomorrow after I get my child her morning cereal,” one viewer commented.

“I am a truck driver, I live in my truck majority of the time. I just folded each box like this and it stores away so much easier now! THANK YOU!!” a second stated.

“Omg!!!! How did we not know this!!!! This is a life changer,” a third echoed.

Meanwhile, others remained unconvinced.

“Or you can just use the flaps and locking tab as they were intended,” one commenter remarked.

“It’s not the way but will work. They literally have a tab and slot for a reason,” another agreed.

The Hack Traveled To Another Screen

Brooklyn’s video found its way to actor and internet personality Adam Rose who reacts to her tutorial in a Facebook reel with 4.5 million views. While her video plays at the top right-hand corner, his eyes are huge and his mouth wide in shock. Throughout her demo, his expression grows more shocked. Once her demo ends, he dashes to his kitchen to test it with a box of Honey Nut Cheerios. He bends the creases in the same spots until he molds into the same shape. To prove the effectiveness, he tilts the box up and down, where nothing pours out.

Even Facebook users in his comments section followed his lead.

“Next I buy cereal I’m going to have to try that!” one wrote.

“I just tried it with Cocoa Pebbles box and it worked!” another shared.

A third echoed, “just went and pulled out all the cereal. Now i’m redoing all the boxes!”

Is This Cereal Box Trick Better or Correct?

Although people praise it for being easier to store and a game-changer, the traditional way is technically proper. However, the plastic bag inside it that contains the contents is another story. An improperly sealed plastic bag will lead the cereal to become stale or opens the possibility of ending up inside. Make sure to air it out beforehand. Ultimately, it’s up to the individual to choose what’s the easiest method to use that will keep the food protected, whether it’s the new viral origami-style, the old-fashioned, tossing the bag into the pantry, or resorting to a food storage container.
