The Republicans can boast as much as they like about their increasing popularity among Americans, but the reality on the ground is quite different.

Since Donald Trump became president of the United States for a second term this year, Americans have been subjected to a relentless series of disasters. First, there were the harsh immigration policies that terrified minorities, followed by tariffs that left many soybean farmers and cattle ranchers on the brink of bankruptcy. Then came the government shutdown, partly triggered by Trump’s refusal to include essential healthcare provisions, and then the reduction of SNAP benefits during this shutdown. Trump’s drastic measures, which he claims are for the betterment of Americans, have only drawn more criticism over time, especially during the implementation of tariffs and the cuts to SNAP. Now, even more individuals are speaking out against him, including many Republicans who had voted for him in the last elections, feeling that their expectations have not been met. They have even publicly stated that they would not vote for him again if given the choice.

CNN recently highlighted the declining popularity of the Trump administration and the Republican Party in a news segment. The news anchor highlighted that grocery prices, utilities, healthcare, housing, and gasoline have all seen significant increases over the past year. While he acknowledged that some inflation from the previous year, linked to the Biden administration, has carried over into this year under Trump, it cannot be entirely blamed on Biden, as Trump and the Republicans like to claim. He even presented statistics showing that 62 per cent of people believe Trump is more responsible for the current economy, compared to 32 per cent who think Biden is to blame.

This CNN news revelation sparked considerable discussion among viewers online, who mostly agreed with it. One person on X (formerly Twitter) wrote:

“Everyone’s talking about groceries, housing, or gas prices but the biggest killer coming for growth is healthcare costs—and it’s about to hit harder than anything else- by far. And Trump and the GOP are to blame. Remember purchasing private insurance is NOT a policy or solution.”

Another person wrote:

“Nobody is going to vote Republican at the rate prices are skyrocketing. Americans are beyond angry, and this translates into an even bigger Blue Wave tsunami coming. Which works for me. Trump has to go and step one is Democrats retaking the house.”
