Providing some background before getting to the main story, @_m.a.e.v.e_mentioned that she had asked her husband for a divorce. She also said that when she brought up the topic, he didn’t react much, and she simply filed the paperwork. However, something happened after she filed for divorce that left her completely confused. She said that one day, while she was at work, her husband and soon-to-be ex-husband sent her food. As she explains in her video, she did not eat the food, but later recounts an incident that led her to believe he was trying to poison her.

TikTok user believes her ex-husband tried to poison her

As previously mentioned, on June 18, 2026, TikTok user @_m.a.e.v.e_ uploaded a video to her profile in which she discussed a possible attempt by her ex-husband to unalive her. She said she had filed for divorce from her husband, and soon after, he sent her food to her workplace.

Maeve explained that at work, she learned that her husband, with whom she was in the process of getting a divorce, had left food on the table. She recalled thinking at the time that it was strange for him to extend such a gesture, especially since he had never sent her meals or paid for her food before. As she shares in the video, she decided not to eat the food and threw it away.

For the second part of the story, which made her believe her then-husband tried to poison her, she mentions that a mutual friend told her that her ex-husband’s dog had passed away. That friend reportedly told her that when people arrived at the house, they found the dog had vomited blood all over the place and had also defecated everywhere before passing.

Maeve states in her video that she couldn’t understand how something like that could happen to her ex-husband’s dog, as she wasn’t very curious or investigative. Unable to comprehend it, she allegedly contacted a friend who was a vet tech. This friend told her that the cause of the dog’s death could have been from ingesting rodent poison.

When Maeve heard this, she was almost convinced that her ex-husband had tried to poison her by offering her food laced with rodent poison, the same food she had refused to eat earlier. She believed that after failing to poison her directly, her ex-husband had attempted to poison and kill the dog.

Understanding post-separation abuse

In simple terms, post-separation abuse is the abuse one partner inflicts on the other after they separate, which in some cases could mean the end of a relationship or marriage. An article from Domestic Abuse Education states that 41% of women murdered by partners or ex-partners had separated or were in the process of separating. Further analysis shows that 30% of these women were killed within the first month of separation, while 70% died within the first year.

Post-separation abuse was recognized as a criminal offense on April 5, 2023, when the law was updated to include it under the Serious Crimes Act (2015). This Act designated coercive and controlling behavior as a criminal offense. This crucial change provides survivors with better access to justice, especially those who previously had limited legal options.
