‘That’s rich from a guy who’s been married 3 times’: Donald Trump cracks jokes about having multiple wives during a chat with Syrian president

Donald Trump recently invited Syrian President and former head of Al Qaeda’s Syrian faction, Ahmed al-Sharaa, to the White House. Their meeting was aimed at possibly enhancing trade relations between the United States and Syria, as part of Trump’s broader initiative to improve the nation’s ties with the Middle East.

On November 10, Donald Trump and Ahmed al-Sharaa had a short discussion after the latter was invited to the White House. After their chat, both appeared in front of the cameras, sharing a few “light-hearted” moments filled with jokes and gift exchanges. A video of their interaction is currently going viral on social media, where Trump is seen joking with al-Sharaa about having multiple wives. In the clip, Trump sprays some cologne from his perfume line on al-Sharaa, claiming it to be the “best” on the market. He then asks someone to pack it for him, mentioning that another bottle was for his wife. Trump also asks Ahmed al-Sharaa how many wives he has, which prompts laughter from al-Sharaa, leading Trump to say, “With you guys, I never know.”

Trump’s comments regarding al-Sharaa’s marital life have attracted significant criticism online, especially from those who are not too fond of him. One user on X (formerly Twitter) took a jab at Trump’s own romantic history, saying:

“That’s rich from a guy who’s been married 3 times.”

Another user, while reflecting on Ahmed al-Sharaa’s identity and the implications of Trump’s interaction with him, remarked:

“Thanks for having a laugh in the White House with a member of al-Qaeda, on the marine corps birthday, the day before Veterans Day. He’s losing his base.”

Many others shared similar sentiments as they criticised Donald Trump. That said, several individuals, particularly those leaning Republican, expressed their support for Trump and appreciated his humour exchange with Ahmed al-Sharaa.
