Normal Reedus and Melissa McBride as Daryl and Carol in the Walking Dead

‘The Walking Dead’s Best Duo Is Coming Back Together

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon began as a joint adventure between fan-favorite characters Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier. Viewers loved the dynamic between Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride during the original run of The Walking Dead, which is why it was so upsetting when Daryl got his own show and Carol got left in the dust. But now, our favorite duo will be reunited in season 2 of the spinoff, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol which will air in 2024.

While we got two moments with Carol in season 1, the show as a whole was about Daryl’s time trapped in France without any real idea of how to return to America. Now though, we have a sense of what season 2 will explore, with Carol coming back into the fold and into Daryl’s life.

“I’ve known there was much more to be told of Carol’s story as I felt her so unsettled when we last saw her, as she watched her best friend, Daryl, ride away,” McBride said at New York Comic Con. “Apart or (hopefully!) together, their stories run deep, and I’m so excited to continue Carol’s journey here. This team of storytellers have done amazing work to land these two established characters in an entirely new world to them, and I’m loving the discoveries!” she added.

In season one of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Daryl (Reedus) washes ashore in France and struggles to understand how and why he got there. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.

Reunited and it feels so good.

Carol and Daryl’s relationship began as unlikely allies and companions among the survivors. Slowly throughout the course of TWD, they became best friends and formed a deep and complex relationship. Carol’s absence was palpable in the first season of Daryl Dixon, and I’m so excited to see that she’ll be rejoining her platonic soulmate in season 2. When season 2 premieres in 2024, we’ll learn more about where Carol and Daryl are now, and what the future of their relationship holds. Will they crossover and meet up with Rick Grimes and Michonne? Anything is possible in The Walking Dead franchise. Either way, we’re excited about the future of Carol and Daryl.
