Reva the Third Sister in Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+.

Why Does the Third Sister Want Obi-Wan?

Don't we all want him, though?

A lot of us probably went into Obi-Wan Kenobi expecting the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend) to be the most fearsome villain in the new Star Wars series. However, he pales in comparison to the Third Sister (Moses Ingram), also known as Reva. Reva is so fearsome, ruthless, and brutal that even her own fellow Inquisitors are kind of scared of her and want her to chill out. In addition to her brutality, she’s also incredibly smart. She knows what she wants and she seems to always know the absolute fastest way to get it. Meanwhile, she won’t let anybody, not even the Grand Inquisitor, stop her from getting what she wants.

Oh, and the thing she wants just happens to be Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). The first two episodes of the series establish pretty quickly that Reva desperately wants to capture Obi-Wan. It clearly seems to have become almost an obsession for her. This leads to her acting rashly and even messing up hunts for other Jedi. At one point, the Fifth Brother (Sung Kang) even confronts Reva and reprimands her for focusing so intently on Obi-Wan.

By episode 2, though, she has crafted a strategic plan to bring Obi-Wan straight to her. Knowing that Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits) and Obi-Wan have a history together, Reva hires men to abduct Bail’s adoptive daughter, Leia Organa (Vivien Lyra Blair). She knows that Bail will seek Obi-Wan’s help and that Obi-Wan will come straight to her. The encounter between Obi-Wan and Reva that follows is surprising and may hold connotations for the rest of the series.

Reva doesn’t fully explain why she wants Obi-Wan, but she does drop a couple of hints. The first hint she drops is when the Fifth Brother confronts her about her Obi-Wan fixation. She tells him that capturing Obi-Wan will get her what she’s owed, thus stronger implying that her hatred of him is personal. The biggest bombshell she drops, though, is during her encounter with Obi-Wan, when she reveals to him that Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is alive.

As Star Wars fans will know, Darth Vader’s identity was a closely guarded secret and few people knew he was Anakin. Even those highest up in the Galactic Empire weren’t privy to Vader’s identity. So, how does Reva know Darth Vader’s true identity? This strongly suggests that Reva is someone very close to Obi-Wan and Anakin, who knows their whole story.

The reason that Reva wants Obi-Wan is likely because she was a Jedi present during Order 66. In fact, she may have been one of the young children present in the opening scene during the massacre at the Jedi temple. She likely lost her family and friends, then turned to the dark side herself as an Inquisitor. After all, many of the Inquisitors were former Jedi. Because of her closeness to the onset of the situation, she may know what Anakin did and that Obi-Wan was his teacher. Hence, she would blame Obi-Wan for all that she lost and seek vengeance.

Is Reva the daughter of Mace Windu?

There is also a theory swirling around that Reva may be Mace Windu’s (Samuel L. Jackson) daughter. Windu was one of the first Jedi to be killed when Anakin turned to the dark side. Perhaps, orphaned and alone, his secret daughter turned to the dark side and now seeks vengeance for her father’s death. While this certainly gives her a motive, the only caveat is that Windu had no known family. He also abided very strictly to the Jedi code, which inhibited the Jedi from forming personal attachments.

Regardless of who she truly is, it is pretty obvious that Reva was very close to the entire Anakin and Obi-Wan situation, so it wouldn’t be surprising if she does boast some kind of relation to someone who was present in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. At the same time, she could just be an original character who survived the traumatic Order 66 as a child. Either way, her story won’t be any less heartbreaking.
