The ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Trailer Has Given Me a New Villain Crush With Reva

Mommy? Sorry. Mommy?

Back when the teaser for Obi-Wan Kenobi dropped, my heart immediately fell toward the Dark Side when I saw Moses Ingram and her fantastic hair on screen. I’m a fairly casual Star Wars fan ever since my mom clutched her pearls over my 13-year-old self not knowing what it was, so I know I’m supposed to be rooting for Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan in this upcoming series. And, like, I was … I-I mean I am! But Star Wars immediately hit “villain girl crush” status when I saw Ingram in the teaser.

Ingram’s presence on screen took my breath away even if she hadn’t spoken a single word of dialogue and there were no details about her beyond “this woman is gonna make it her job to make Obi-Wan’s life a living hell.” Today, we got an official trailer, and I can say in full confidence that I, at the very least, want this woman to step on me. Happy Star Wars day, indeed.

What we know about Moses Ingram’s Reva so far

Moses Ingram plays Reva, and the trailer, admittedly, doesn’t give us too many details about her. We at least get to hear her, and what she has to say should put Obi-Wan on full alert that he’s a wanted man. “I want every lowlife and bounty hunter to squeeze him.”

Yes ma’am.

Afterward, she yells to Obi-Wan that he can’t run and that he “can’t escape him.” While we aren’t told who the “him” is that’s being referred to, the shots of Darth Vader are a pretty good indicator of where Reva’s trying to take Obi-Wan. There’s also a pretty brilliant “oh damn” moment when Obi-Wan tries to tell Owen that a certain Skywalker boy must be trained, only for good ol’ Uncle Owen to ask, “Like you trained his father?”

There’s gonna be a lot of sad Obi-Wan in this series, isn’t there? And I’m sure Reva’s gonna take advantage of it when she can.

Okay, but who is Reva?

Our Brittany Knupper broke down who the Inquisitors are back when the teaser was launched in April for those of us (aka: me) who aren’t too familiar with all of the rich lore that Star Wars has to offer.

The Inquisitors—also known as the Inquisitorius, the Inquisitorius Program, and the Order of Inquisitors—are an organization of force-sensitive Dark Side agents who serve the Sith and the Galactic Empire. Their true names and origins are generally a closely guarded secret. They’re tasked with hunting down any remaining Jedi who may have survived Order 66 at the end of the Clone Wars. They’re also responsible for taking out other high-level political dissidents and for tracking down and retrieving force-sensitive children.

They are governed directly by Darth Vader and don’t typically have names. Instead, they refer to each other by their numeral rank and familial title—Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister, for example (in a warped nod to their monastic Jedi origins), which is why the reveal of Inquisitor Reva is so intriguing! She has a name!

This coincides with rumors that have been leaked about Reva’s part in the series. If you don’t want potential spoilers since we don’t know if these rumors are true or not, now’s the time to stop reading.

According to CBR (who got the info from MakingStarWars.net) the series will show us Reva’s past and reveal a pretty tragic backstory. “In the limited series, audiences will get a glimpse of Reva taken from her family, innocent and confused. She is turned into a warrior for a corrupt Jedi religion. Then because of the Jedi, she is almost killed in Order 66 and then forced to make a choice to become a killer for Darth Vader or die.” Order 66, as a quick reminder, is the order that labeled all the Jedi as traitors.

Again, this is just a rumor, but if it’s true it sounds like Reva will be a rather interesting character—especially when paired with Obi-Wan’s obvious guilt toward Anakin. Reva becoming a killer for Darth Vader would affect Obi-Wan since it would be something else that shows how much Anakin’s changed. Her screaming to Obi-Wan that he can’t escape always holds a significant amount of weight since he’s running from Anakin, but having that added context for Reva would add even more to Obi-Wan’s mounting guilt.

That’s assuming it’s true. Reva could very well just be a stone-cold badass with no sort of emotional ties to any of this, either way, I can’t wait to see her in action … while still rooting for the Jedi, of course.
