Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter dropped a profile on Marvel’s/Twitter’s Captain America, Chris Evans. They covered a range of topics, but with Avengers: Endgame—and Evans’ exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe—looming just on the horizon, it was a big topic of conversation. Unlike the rest of us, though, Evans has actually seen the movie, and his reaction is a bit foreboding.
Part of that is because he’s only seen the first hour of the three-hour movie, yet it managed to nearly bring him to tears three times: “Man, this one’s really good. I choked up like three times.”
If that’s the case, we can only imagine what’s in store for the remaining 2/3 of the movie. On the other hand, he’s already admitted that this movie is particularly emotional for him in a real-world way, so maybe it’s fond memories and callbacks really getting to him?
After all, he already let the entire internet know that he got “emotional” when he wrapped shooting, which he also referenced in the interview.

With the way the movie’s been set up and all the “whatever it takes” talk, that seems likely, right? Right?
He also toyed with all of our emotions a bit, joking that he’s only seen the first hour because “After I die by Tony’s hand, I just said, You know what? I can’t watch this,” and that the movie has reached its bladder-busting runtime because of Cap’s 1-hour funeral.
So … how much of that is really a joke? (I’d take a real-time Captain America funeral Blu-ray special feature, tbh.) If Cap really dies in Endgame, would Evans be so quick to joke about it? To be fair, the interviewer brought it up, and it’s not like the expectation isn’t well known enough at this point that he can reference it without us really being sure—although we’re pretty sure that Tony Stark doesn’t take him down, despite his (attempted) murderous antics at the end of Captain America: Civil War.
Whatever the case, no matter who lives or dies, this one is bound to get fans “choked up” too, after we’ve been on this emotional journey with these characters for more than a decade. Only about a month left to stock up on tissues!
