The Best Donald Trump Impression (Anthony Atamanuik’s) Is Getting Its Own TV Show on Comedy Central

We assume they're hoping for huge ratings.

Alec Baldwin has been handling the unfortunately necessary Donald Trump impression on Saturday Night Live to great success, but a lesser-known Trump impression is about to get its due. Anthony Atamanuik’s Trump is incredible, and Comedy Central is bringing us more of it with the newly announced President Show.

First, if you’re unfamiliar with what Atamanuik’s been doing, check out his work on the @Midnight Presidential Debate:

Baldwin’s Trump more than gets the job done, and—like 30 Rock’s Jack Donaghy—it’s funnier when you’re aware of Baldwin’s own personal political leanings, but Atamanuik practically becomes Donald Trump. Atamanuik’s version is also a little less “hapless moron” and more “obnoxious jerk,” making it an ultimately more effective critique than what we get on SNL.

That’s what will likely set The President Show apart when it premieres on April 27 (11:30, 10:30c). It’ll be a weekly parody “late night” show direct from the (pretend) Oval Office, following The Daily Show—kind of a bizarro universe Colbert Report, it sounds like. Atamanuik said, “[O]ur political system is too broken for us to be content joking about one man, even though he is a disastrous silly little toddler boy. Mostly I’d just like to thank Comedy Central for giving us this platform to speak truth to power and if we’re lucky, end up in prison!”

He also mentioned it follows in the “proud American tradition” of mocking the president, which reminds me of Comedy Central’s short-lived That’s My Bush way back in 2001. There should be enough material to mine to make this one a bit longer lasting, especially with Atamanuik heading things up.
