Today is February 17th, 2017. That means that many people all over America will be participating in a General Strike. Here today at The Mary Sue, we’re going to do our best to cover some strike-related events happening around the country, while still serving up the other forms of reporting that you might expect from us on a more typical day.

In any case, here’s a list of strikes happening all over the United States today, via Strike4Democracy.com. Today is getting described as the “first wave” of strikes planned to unfold in the coming weeks and months, but actually, yesterday’s strike event may have been the first. Yesterday was “A Day Without Immigrants,” which meant that many immigrants all over the United States refused to work in protest against the Trump administration’s policies.

Today will be much the same, albeit on a grander scale. That could end up affecting your day today, particularly if you live here in the States where many strikes will unfold. For example, businesses that you had planned to frequent may be closed today due to public protests. Your coworkers may be absent. They have an important message to send, and we’ll be doing our best to elevate and spread that message today when and where we can.

If you are striking today, we wish you luck and safety. As a reminder, here’s Jessica Lachenal’s protest primer: “Know Before You Go: a Primer for Protests and Demonstrations.
