Happy Monday, all! Sony Pictures is ushering in a new week of fresh horrors with an official trailer to get your heart pumping and sweat glands working overtime. Life is a sci-fi horror that takes place on a futuristic International Space Station and centers on a group of astronauts dealing with a new lifeform from Mars. What was supposed to be a a major scientific breakthrough turns into their worst nightmare as whatever they picked up starts killing them off, one by one. So basically, everything you fear wrapped up into one, glossy yet terrifying movie. Who’s in?
On the plus side, it stars Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare and the grossly underrated Jake Gyllenhaal. The film was directed by Child 44’s Daniel Espinosa and features a script from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote both Zombieland, Deadpool and their sequels. You can catch it in theaters on March 24.
In other trailer news, how about some The Fate of the Furious to cleanse the soul?
The eighth installment of the hit franchise stars an all-star cast made up of Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell, Scott Eastwood, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren. Whoa.
When Dominic Toretto (Diesel) is somehow seduced by a woman (shocker) into a world of crime, he ends up betraying those closest to him leading to a series of game-changing events. This is a big deal seeing as Toretto is all about family and has done right by his crew throughout the entire series. It would have to take something major for him to do a 180 like this.
And while I am hesitant about the whole “woman corrupts good man” storyline, I am appreciative of this franchise for proving that action movies featuring people of color as leads can, in fact, make money way before this new wave of Hollywood diversity talks began. Kudos. The Fate of the Furious heads to theaters on April 14.
