Jeff Goldblum, Melissa McCarthy Make for Amazing Young Han Solos in Conan Clip

"So is this like a big spoiler, like when Han Solo was young, was he Pakistani?"

We’ve said a lot about Alden Ehrenreich’s casting as Han Solo for the young Han Solo Star Wars Story movie. While I personally think that he’s a pretty solid choice (thanks in no small part to his role in Hail, Caesar!), I often can’t help but wonder what that movie might look like if some other actors (or even actresses) got to occupy that role. Enter Conan and his comedy pals, who all got together over Comic-Con weekend to shoot a fun video that imagined celebrities like Bill Hader, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Melissa McCarthy, and even Jodie Foster as young Han Solo.

The sketch is set up as an audition, with each of the celebrities appearing in “costume” (read: a tunic, a vest, and a really jock-boyfriend-in-an-80s-movie wig) and reading a few famous Star Wars lines. Hands down the best reading came from none other than Jeff Goldblum, who definitely added… a little something more to the role, that’s for sure.

Hader’s impressions of a young tauntaun, a young Jabba the Hutt, and a young Chewbacca totally made this video for me, too. It’s definitely worth a watch if only to inject some levity into your (hopefully not so bad) Monday.

While you’re at it, you should check out our video of 10 actresses we would have loved to have seen play young Han Solo.
