John Boyega Addresses Chances of a Future Finn/Rey Romance

Recommended Videos

Apparently, John Boyega is living to crush the hearts of shippers everywhere. Initially he said that his personal perception of the Finn/Poe pairing (which many fans glommed onto) was that it was just a “bromance”–but don’t worry, he clearly understands the appeal of the Stormpilot relationship, as well as the internet’s powerful reaction to it. However, if you were hoping to see Finn wind up with either Poe or Rey in a future Star Wars film, you might be a little disappointed.

In a recent interview at Cannes, where he was honored as one of the recipients of this year’s Chopard Trophy, Boyega said that he and Daisy Ridley had played the relationship between Finn and Rey as friends-only, adding:

Finn and Rey – they’re just friends. Finn is a storm trooper, so he doesn’t really know what’s going on. So the romance thing is something that’s going to be interesting in the next installment. It’s not going to go the way you think it’s going to go.

I don’t know, man. All I’m saying is that I don’t really look at my friends like this:

All joking aside, I’m glad that Boyega’s not necessarily giving anything away in terms of the romance of any upcoming Star Wars films–especially since that only plays partly into the excitement for fans. We don’t really know how Finn’s relationships are going to play out in future movies, so in the meantime we can just content ourselves with the knowledge that the next movie is apparently going to be “bigger than The Force Awakens–at least according to Boyega.
