The Force Awakens Gives Opportunities to Older Cosplayers, Like These Han & Leia Grandparents

Recommended Videos

These two grandparents, who happen to be the in-laws of E. Jones of Coregeek, have put together a stunning cosplay rendition of General Leia Organa and Han Solo’s costumes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The costumes, which they wore to Emerald City Comic Con this year, are the handiwork of Carol, who plays Leia here. She’s the Star Wars fan of the duo, and the costumes were her idea and came together thanks to her sewing mastery. It’s clear from close observation that these costumes had to have been custom-made. The unusual collars on the shirts are absolutely perfect, and the larger photo below reveals that Leia’s purple vest even has pockets in just the right place (here’s a photo of the original costume for comparison). Carol must have looked at many reference photos in order to get these patterns exactly right! It’s also incredibly cool to see more older characters getting a chance to shine in science fiction, and therefore seeing older cosplayers getting their turn in the spotlight as well. Of course, it doesn’t matter at all if you want to cosplay as a character that isn’t your age, but it’s also nice to have somebody to relate to. These characters give younger fans someone to look up to (who wouldn’t want to be General Organa when they grow up?), and it also reinforces to older fans that they still belong here. Here’s another photo of the pair, via photographer David Ngo.

This isn’t the first time that these two have cosplayed together, either. They’ve also cosplayed as the couple from Up (OMG). You can see more examples of their costumes together in this album!
