Dallas Woman Wasn’t Informed of Father’s Passing Until Days Later. Then Her Aunt Sued Her for $50,000.
Social media has oftentimes been an outlet for people to open up about uncomfortable experiences. Some people have even poked fun at their traumatic stories. But Angelica (@angelicaamedia) from Dallas, Texas, took a trend up a notch and talked about a truly strange family dispute with her aunt.
There has been a mockumentary trend on TikTok, where people would go in front of the camera and pretend to be preparing for a documentary. Attached to these videos are dramatic captions about what they intend to talk about for their exposé. These trending videos are often silly but accompanied by the dramatic violin music by Duomo.
Angelica participated in the trend, but what was supposed to be a mockumentary quickly became an exposé.
“Who sues their sibling’s kid after they die?”
“My dad’s sisters, after he died, didn’t even tell me he died until days later,” she alleged on TikTok. Angelica went on to accuse her aunts of increasingly sinister claims. She further stated that her aunts did not call her until they discovered they were not the beneficiaries of his insurance policy.
“Then, my aunt’s sister, one of them, told me she wasn’t even going to put me in the obituary as his only kid. And when we went to court, she asked the judge for a paternity test,” Angelica continued. She claimed that the judge refused the request. But the absurdity didn’t end there.
“I can’t make it up. And then, my dad’s sister sued me for fifty-plus thousand dollars. Who sues their sibling’s kid after they die?” Angelica fumed. It would seem that she was up against more than an aunt, but one in particular tried to sue her for a large sum of money.
“The first thing she said to me is, ‘Your dad died and we want the house,'” Angelica alleged and asserted that her aunts didn’t even tell her when her father’s funeral would be, having to Google the location herself so that she could transport his body to Dallas.
Nevertheless, to the shock of her aunts, she attended the funeral. There, she claimed that they had an altercation, though it’s unclear what kind. It may have all been as dramatic as somebody objecting at a wedding to expose the groom’s affair.
A year after his death, Angelica said that her aunt took her to court. “She was accusing me of not being his kid. And then, she was also accusing me of having other siblings I didn’t know,” Angelica stated. In court, she alleged that her aunt had a random Black man come, pointed to him, and told everyone that it was her secret brother.
“Do you know that man?” The judge asked Angelica, and she was confused. “Hell no, I don’t know that man!” She replied. But when her aunt was called to the stand, the woman supposedly accused Angelica of being a ‘government baby,’ implying that she was born out of wedlock. However, the judge allegedly pointed out that Angelica’s parents were married when she was born.
“It’s been very traumatic,” Angelica said of her experience. She claimed to have spent close to $20,000 in court fees for the past two years because of her aunts.
