Harley Quinn to Be the Center of a “Ragged” Romantic Triangle in Suicide Squad

I didn't know Poison Ivy was in this movie!

The Suicide Squad cast is all over the cover of Empire this week, and in interview with the magazine, Will Smith and director David Ayer revealed more about Harley’s journey in the film.

Smith explained that the movie will see Harley developing feelings for his character, Deadshot: “Harley’s the biggest troublemaker, but Deadshot’s kinda eyeing her a bit. There’s a pretty ragged romantic angle there.”

According to Polygon,

Ayer admitted that while Harley’s relationships will be front and center in the movie, the film actually focuses on her liberation as a character and finding her independence outside of the Joker’s influence.

“That really is a metaphor for everyone’s journey here,” Ayer said.

Harley and Deadshot have a history in the comics (remember that clown car ‘joke?’) but hearing that a love triangle might be a major aspect of Harley’s role only adds to the reservations I have about Suicide Squad already. Here’s hoping that the movie develops Harley’s character outside of her relationships with the men in the movie, and that “her liberation” is more about her than it is about Deadshot or the Joker.

What do you think, friends?
