Reddit Launches Upvoted, Its Own News Site Without a Comment Section

Where we're going, we don't need comments.

Upvoted will show you a world without rules and controls—without borders or boundaries. A world … without comments. (Am I doing it right, Reddit?) Actually, it’ll have more rules and controls than actual Reddit, which is kind of the draw. Upvoted will be a place where you can get the best of Reddit without the awful, awful worst of it.

The new site‘s staff will do what a large portion of the blogosphere already does: wade into the dark, murky waters of Reddit, pull out the stuff of value, and polish it for the masses not brave enough to do it for themselves. With a small team of about ten writers, Upvoted will curate Reddit’s best content, interview original posters, verify facts, and write stories to be posted on the new site—so quite a bit more than most blogs do, actually.

Those Redditors who do want to comment on the Upvoted stories will still be able to do so on Reddit itself in the subreddit /r/upvoted, but the ability of Upvoted to separate popular Reddit content from the dregs of the Reddit community is an appealing one. With a friendlier face that leverages only the best that Reddit has to offer, this could become the true “front page of the Internet” that the site has long aspired to be.
