Star Wars: The Force Awakens Paving the Way for a New Generation of Skywalkers

Recommended Videos

Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, has been clarifying the difference in approach between the “core” Star Wars movies and films like Rogue One and the “young Han Solo” project, and in doing so, she may have revealed a bit more about what we can expect from The Force Awakens and beyond.

In a recent interview with Costco Connection (you read that right – they have a huge readership), Kennedy said that core movies like The Force Awakens are considered the “Saga” movies by Lucasfilm. The spin-offs, meanwhile, are considered the “Anthology” movies. With regard to how both lines of films will proceed, Kennedy says:

The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga. The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. The Force Awakens follows Return of the Jedi and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe.

Interesting. So, if the Saga films are about the “Skywalker family saga,” does that mean that The Force Awakens might introduce a new Skywalker or two to take us beyond Luke and Leia?

What do you think? Are you up for next-generation Skywalkers?
