Server Witnesses a First-Date Fail After Learning the Man Was Married. Then His Wife Comes to Tell Her Shocking Truth: ‘Leave Me Out of It’
A first date that wasn't really a first date.
Servers often have some of the craziest stories when it comes to surviving a shift, like their elaborate “know-how” for receiving more tips, or, in this case, witnessing a first date gone wrong. A Virginia-based server shared how she became an unwilling accomplice to a couple’s first date, only to find out they were allegedly married and were role-playing the entire time.
Hannah (@hannah__lynn16) shared a video on her TikTok describing the “most awkward two hours of my life” that she claimed happened eight months before posting the video. According to Hannah, a man came and sat at her section of the restaurant and told her he was meeting a woman for their first date before ordering their drinks in advance.
“So he orders his drink, [and] he wanted to go ahead and order her a strawberry margarita,” Hannah said. “I start to go put them in, and he stops me. He’s like, ‘Hey, actually, go ahead and cancel the margarita. I’m not sure if that’s what she’s gonna wanna want.’”

Hannah seemingly didn’t think much of this request and just gave the man his Old Fashioned. Not long after, the man’s date arrived and ordered a strawberry margarita herself. Hannah claimed to have joked with the man about being correct about his date’s drink preference.
The man’s reaction to Hannah’s joke, however, made the server realize she might have said something wrong. “He kinda gave me a look like I wasn’t supposed to say that. And I was like, ‘Oop! My bad.’ I thought it was a funny joke, whatever,” Hannah said.
While the first date appeared normal at first, Hannah was allegedly stopped by the woman, who then told her that she didn’t realize the man was already married, so she wanted to pay her tab and leave. “Can you imagine the look on my face?” Hannah said in the video.
Hannah said she immediately took the woman’s side: “I would want to leave too if this man did not tell me that he was married and I’m meeting him for a first date.” To Hannah, this seemed like a classic tale of a woman scorned, so she supposedly encouraged the woman not to pay for her drink and leave the bill to the man.
Despite Hannah’s support, the woman eventually paid for her own drink and left. The server claimed she didn’t know how to act around the man, who was left alone at the restaurant. “I’m fully thinking that he just tricked this woman into meeting him for a first date and he’s fully married.”

The situation became even more baffling when the woman allegedly came back, argued with the man near the restroom, before returning to their table together, according to Hannah. Not long later, Hannah finally learned the truth—they were actually married to each other and just spicing up their relationship.
“Come to find out they have been married for 20 years, and they wanted to do a little [role]play for a date night and act like they were meeting for the first time,” Hannah said. Seemingly exasperated by the entire situation, Hannah said to the camera, “Could you have informed me of what was going on? Because I just dogged this man, thinking that he was a scumbag for going on a date with you, when he was actually married to you.”
Viewers responded with support for Hannah, but also poked fun at the unexpected situation the server found herself in. “You were an unpaid actress,” one comment said. “It’s giving Phil and Claire from Modern Family.” Another comment asked about her tip: “Please tell us he [tipped] you at least 25%?!”
Some commenters felt the situation was something akin to harassment. “hell no. is this not borderline sexual harassment? they literally involved you in their weird a** kink im so sorry wtaf,” a user said. “Lowkey that’s an unconsensual kink they just forced you into playing into,” another comment read.
According to Hannah, they remained at her table for another two hours and left her feeling uncertain about how to act around the married couple. Although the server didn’t say anything sneaky to the couple, she told them through the video: “I’m all for you guys having fun in your relationship, but leave me out of it next time. Please. Thank you.”
