When you want something to change, you write a letter to your congressperson/people (or just cry alone in a corner convinced they wouldn’t read it anyway). When Meryl Streep wants something to change, she writes a letter to everyone’s congresspeople, because she’s just on a whole other level.
Yes, according to the Associated Press, every House and Senate member in the United States just got a letter—signed by Streep herself—urging them to revive the Equal Rights Amendment. She wrote:
I am writing to ask you to stand up for equality—for your mother, your daughter, your sister, your wife or yourself—by actively supporting the Equal Rights Amendment.

A whole new generation of women and girls are talking about equality—equal pay, equal protection from sexual assault, equal rights.
She also sent them all copies of ERA Coalition president Jessica Neuwirth’s book, Equal Means Equal, because some people in this country are clearly lacking in understanding of what that means. The constitutional amendment itself was originally designed to guarantee women equal rights and has been put on the table a few times over the course of its life since 1923, and its last defeat in 1972 saw it just 3 states shy of the votes it needed for ratification.
So… if I’m not mistaken, Meryl Streep is the queen of the United States, so they kind of have to pass it this time, right?
