Star Wars Battlefront Will Let You Be a Female Stormtrooper, but Don’t Even Think About Pink Vader(??)

So just like The Force Awakens, then?

Darn those SJWs! *Shakes fist.* (Fact: It physically pained me to type that, even as a joke on those who really mean it.)

In a not wholly surprising but still positive move, Star Wars Battlefront developer DICE will allow players to select female Stormtroopers—as well as other characters who don’t wear full body armor at all times—along with the game’s other customization options. Polygon asked DICE’s Patrick Bach about the gender inclusion, and he responded with a perfect, “Why wouldn’t there be?”

Sure, you could try—and I’ve seen fans do it; believe me—to come up with some excuses not to include them, but why bother when you can just do it and not hurt anything? Besides, The Force Awakens already has a pretty awesome woman donning the Stormtrooper armor. Bach went on,

When you talk to Lucasfilm, they’re like, “Yeah, of course there are [female Stormtroopers]. We just haven’t shown you [in the movies].” For us, it’s about filling in the details in the universe. We help out by asking the question, “Can we do this, can we do that? Should we do this or do that?” And then we work it out [with Lucasfilm].”

But LET’S NOT GET CRAZY. They don’t want girls coming in and turning everything pink, as girls are wont to do(??). Bach told IGN, “You can’t do it in crazy ways. You can’t have a pink Darth Vader. …You want the Stormtroopers to look like Stormtroopers.” I’m going to give Bach the benefit of the doubt here and assume he was just trying to illustrate how the gender option won’t have an effect on your other customization options, which I actually think is kind of great—you know, since boys and girls are perfectly capable of liking/wearing the same things.

What he said there just reminds me of what some people seem to think will happen if women are given the slightest bit of representation. “They’ll run in with their pink markers and glitter pens! Darth Vader’s lightsaber will be made of flowers! Han’s blaster will shoot rainbows! We’re all doomed!”
