If This Is Really Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars VII Costume, We’re On Board

The force is with this concept art.

The editor of a fan-run Star Wars site has some sketches of the costume for the lead female character in the new Star Wars flick – and if it’s real, we kind of love it.

Jason Ward, Editor-In-Chief at Making Star Wars, says he got the opportunity to look a the concept art for Daisy Ridley’s character in Star Wars: Episode VII, rumored to be Han and Leia’s daughter. When I first heard the costume design might be floating around, I was immediately plagued with Slave Leia and Accidental Midriff Padme nightmares – but, if these sketches are true to life, it seems like J.J. is going in a much more space-practical direction.

Ward (obviously) wasn’t able to take photos of any of the art, but he did, apparently, examine it long enough to be able to make his own sketches of what he saw. The character’s poses are close to the ones he saw in the original sketches, as well. Here’s the art – click through for full size.

Here’s how Ward describes the outfit:

I had trouble with the loose free-flowing scarf, so I didn’t depict it. She has a ton of detail and gadgets on the costume, so please forgive me for any ambiguities. The pants reminded me of Boba Fett’s pants (they’re not). The knee pads, chest and scarf are a dark blue. The pants are grey. Her arms are a white “bone” looking padding, tied off with brown straps. My sketch looks like she has a hat brim but that is supposed to be a transparent visor.

Guys. Guys. Guys.

It’s practical! It’s not unnecessarily sexualized for the male gaze! Even her “casual” look is quite gender ambiguous! She has boots instead of high heels! She’s got a lightsaber!

If this comes to life on-screen, I shall be very pleased. Good work today, Star Wars.
