Second Social Network Trailer May Be a Fake

Recommended Videos

This morning, the blogs were abuzz about what appeared to be the second trailer for The Social Network, the upcoming sensationalist thriller about the sensational and thrilling founding of Facebook, based on the Ben Mezrich novel of the same name. Well, it looks like the second Facebook movie trailer just might be (takes off sunglasses) a Fake-book.

Update: False alarm; looks like it is legit

The trailer, which depicts an instant message-type conversation between early Facebook-types like Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin and Sheryl Sandberg and even Larry Summers, who butts in to incredulously exclaim “Millions?” when someone suggests Facebook could be worth millions, ends with what appears to be official Sony cards, but that could all be part of the ruse. The clip has been pulled from YouTube and DailyMotion due to “a copyright claim by Sony Pictures Entertainment” and “a breach of the Terms of Use,” respectively. This has led some to conclude that it’s probably not real. There is an outside possibility that this was either an accidental leak of a later trailer or a deliberate viral stunt by Sony. Either way, come to think of it, it wouldn’t take all that much technical wherewithal to mock this up; certainly not a big studio budget.

We’ve posted a duplicate below; it’s unclear how long it’ll stay up.
