[UPDATED] Variety Now Reporting That Jason Momoa Is Probably Definitely Our New Aquaman, Maybe

[Update] The Variety article is also from June, which we admittedly overlooked, so we have no idea why sources like io9Huffington Post, and others are reporting this as some new thing today. Our bad for thinking there was anything new to report here, guys. As you were. But if you want the latest on “is Aquaman even IN this movie?” check out what Zack Snyder said just last week.

After months of rumors, Variety has doubled down on the news that Jason Momoa has been cast as Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Boy, this better not be mere speculation, Variety. Otherwise we’re all going to be… dead in the water. *puts on sunglasses; cue thunderous YEAAAAAAAH*

The Variety article cites the scoop as having come from Hitfix — who put out a story on the casting a few months ago in June, describing Momoa’s appearance in relation to the “World Engine” from Man of Steel — but offers no statement from anyone at Warner Bros. as confirmation. So as desperately as we want this to be true, and as reliable as Variety usually tends to be in these situations, we’re still going to look at it with a grain of (sea) salt until we see an official press statement.

But when will we know for sure, you’re probably asking? When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east; when the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves; when your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then we will know, and not before. So, I don’t know, get to that babymaking and mountain-blowing, or something. Do it for Atlantis!
