Sony TV Exec Says Community Movie Will Happen and Talks What Comes After #Sixseasonsandamovie

It's all happening!

Community has taken us on a roller coaster of emotions ever since it was canceled by NBC, but now that Yahoo Screen (which I’m unfamiliar with, but I have to guess is some kind of supreme being sent to guide us to salvation) has saved the show, things are all falling into place. And, according to Zack Van Amburg, Sony Pictures Television president of programming and production, that #andamovie business is totally happening!

When The Hollywood Reporter asked him about where the show will go after season six, Van Amburg said,

I don’t know, let’s see how our movie does! Isn’t that our plan? There’s no way we’re not making the movie now! I think once we make the movie, let’s look up and decide how much more Community the world wants. We promised six seasons and a movie, how much more do you want?! [Laughs.] … I’d be lying if I told you that we have not had some very early and preliminary conversations that are very exciting about what a potential movie could be and who might direct it. It’s early but it’s completely in our thought process.

How much more Community does the world want? All of it. All of the Community. Why not start by building a theme park version of Greendale like the Harry Potter world at Universal? It could have paintball, blanket and pillow forts, official The Floor is Lava competitions…

Actually, I’d be content with seeing “Six seasons and a movie” come to pass, and anything after that is just a bonus. Van Amburg says no one knows yet if the movie would see theatrical release or go through Yahoo, but it wasn’t a part of their Yahoo deal, so anything is possible. Welcome to the brightest timeline.
