If, like, just going for a run or something isn’t a sufficiently horrifying way for you to get your exercise, rejoice! The hit of the 2012 San Diego comic con, The Walking Dead Escape, may be coming to a city near you. It’s just like the show, but better, because there’s no Carl.
Described by the LA Times as “a haunted house at 100 miles per hour,” the Walking Dead Escape combines a fun run, obstacle course, and LARPing. To me, it seems like a great opportunity to dress up, relive your favorite parts of the show, and actually have a positive interaction with strangers who live in your city.
Here’s a video that shows what the experience was like at comic con back in 2012. Although, there’s no telling how the virus will have changed by now.

Your only obstacle isn’t being chased by walkers. You will climb, jump, slide, crawl, through our Chain Link Mega Zone, Herd Highway, Hospital Hell and more! Test your skills and stamina and find your way to the Decontamination Zone in order to survive the Apocalypse.
So far, it doesn’t seem like there’s a Governor’s Colony, which is a relief, as I’m pretty sure that would finish me off.
Ticket prices vary depending on the level of participation you’re interested in. Running as a survivor gets you 35-50 minutes of “walker” madness on the obstacle course and presumably a great work out, while participating as a walker involves professional makeup and walker training as well as 2.5 hours of shuffling on the course. Spectators get access at intervals to take pictures, and all positions give you entrance to the after-party (and, if I’m not mistaken, some free beer.)
Depending on which of these roles strikes your walking fancy, the Escape can run you anywhere from $20 to $150. That might seem like a lot just to relive your favorite moments of a show that’s been (ahem) dead on its feet since the second season (there, I said it), but participating will definitely increase your chances of survival should your city ever truly be overrun with zombies.
