Internet Cat Videos Get a Real-Life Film Festival

Recommended Videos

If you have Internet, you know all about cat videos. Cat videos are what makes the Internet go around. Cat videos are so prominent that when Google had their brain simulation look at the Internet, it learned what cats were. But why should cat videos only be an Internet thing? That’s what Katie Czarniecki Hill must have thought to herself before organizing The Internet Cat Video Film Festival (ICVFF), a real-life film festival for your favorite Internet cats.

Due to take place on August 30th at Walker Arts Center’s Open Field venue in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the ICVFF is intended to be a “carefully curated series of cat videos” where viewers can share the joy of their favorites with friends, and also discover new classics-in-the-making. How do they plan on finding the videos for this festival? Or perhaps more accurately, how do they plan on wading through the insane abundance of cat videos on the Internet? They’re soliciting nominations, so even if you aren’t anywhere near Minneapolis, you can be a part of this ludicrous endeavor.

Hill sums up her intentions on the Walker Art Center blog:

Walker Open Field welcomes cat lovers (and challenges haters – c’mon, you know who you are) to openly release your cat-video-induced giggles and emotions that are otherwise muffled by computer screens and constrained by cubicles. Rejoice and be free like my favorite triumphant slow-motion kitten playing in the video below. Let’s transform this singular small screen viewing experience into a shared celebration with the larger-than-life projection of these silly clips out on the Open Field.

This activity is free, open to the public, and cat-friendly. And no, you do not have to be a so-called cat-lady to attend. Cool chicks, dudes and dog-lovers are, of course, also welcome… because you know you love that one video of the cat jumping in and out of a box.

Amusing? Sure. Necessary? Of course not. That said, it could be one of the biggest YouTube viewing parties ever. It’s a good day to live in Minnesota, I guess. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go nominate Kitty City like 30 times.
