Actor Tom Cavanagh is the latest to join the cast of The CW’s next superhero series, Flash. Hit the jump to find out who he’ll be playing plus what will happen to The Flash himself if the show isn’t a hit.

So far the pilot hosts Grant Gustin as Flash, Candice Patton as Iris WestJesse L. Martin as Detective West (Iris’ father), Rick Cosnett and Danielle Panabaker as Eddie Thawne and Caitlin Snow(potentially the Reverse-Flash and Killer Frost) and Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon (aka superhero Vibe).

The Hollywood Reporter writes, “Cavanagh has been cast in the main role of Harrison Wells, described as a rock star in the world of physics. The mind and money behind Central City’s S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator, he becomes a pariah after the lab’s explosion, but charts his path to redemption when he discovers that his failed experiment had the unintended consequence of creating the world’s fastest man.”

Cavanagh is known from his time on the NBC series Ed, as well as Scrubs and Royal PainsArrow viewers will remember the name Harrison Wells mentioned briefly during Barry Allen’s visit to Starling City. The name does not match up with any DC Comic character but THR says after his casting, “this leaves one main role open: Hartley Rathaway.” That’s the alias of the Pied Piper.

Meanwhile, executive producer Greg Berlanti spoke to Digital Spy about the future of the series. “Fingers crossed we don’t screw it up and he gets his own show!” he joked. “If he didn’t, I don’t think we would ever want to let Grant go. He’s too valuable. That would be our hope, I think – no matter what, to keep Barry part of the universe.”

So there you have it.
