TikToker @boy_mom_02 said she loves good “chisme.” She recently shared a story about an unexpected drama at Benihana in Downey, California. The video received 21,500 views.

What happened at Benihana?

The casual dinner reportedly turned into a front-row seat to a heated confrontation between diners.

According to the storyteller, she was dining with her family when they were seated with two other couples. She quickly noticed that one woman seemed to have an attitude and allegedly carried herself with an entitled “Karen” demeanor.

The creator wondered if the woman was simply unhappy about being at Benihana. She noted that the woman was in her 50s and overly dressed up in very high heels.

The TikToker speculated that perhaps her date had chosen the restaurant and she was not thrilled about it.

However, the woman’s behavior continued after the chef arrived.

Why did the chef become part of the drama?

At Benihana, diners don’t just come for the food. The chefs turn the meal into a show with theatrical cooking, knife skills, flames, and playful interactions right at the hibachi table.

The storyteller claimed the woman barely participated as the chef attempted to interact with everyone at the table.

She also alleged that the woman appeared upset when the chef came out. She noted that the chef being Black seemed to contribute to her reaction.

What started the argument?

The situation reportedly escalated when the other couple asked the woman to move her wires over so they could make room for their plate.

Then the request led to a comment from the “Karen” that upset the other man at the table. The man allegedly became angry, and a verbal altercation began.

A manager eventually stepped in and reportedly moved the woman to another table.

The TikToker said she moved closer to the other couple so she could get the details.

What did the ‘Karen’ allegedly say?

Allegedly, the “Karen” told the other woman that she would move because “bigger people need more space.”

The comment reportedly did not sit well with the woman’s date.

Then the storyteller said the man took the remark as disrespectful and immediately went off on the woman.

Later, she told the couple that she was glad they stood up for themselves.

Was the storyteller used to this kind of behavior?

The storyteller added another interesting detail about herself. She said she works at a school for behaviors and is accustomed to dealing with fights and disruptive behavior.

That may have made the chaotic dinner feel less shocking to her than it would have to someone else.

Was the ‘Karen’ really an unwilling Benihana customer?

Later, the storyteller said she received even more tea from the chef.

Apparently, she had misunderstood the situation.

The storyteller initially assumed the woman was unhappy about being at Benihana.

But the woman was allegedly a regular at the restaurant.

The cook reportedly said he had seen the woman at Benihana on multiple occasions and with different men. That detail completely changed the storyteller’s interpretation of what she had witnessed.

What happened in the comments?

The story sparked plenty of reactions from viewers who clearly appreciated the unexpected restaurant drama.

One commenter, @islandgirl206, joked that the diners got “literally, dinner and 2 shows.” They could not believe the chef had seen the woman at Benihana with so many different dates.

Meanwhile, the creator leaned into her reputation as a “chismosa,” aka gossiper. Responding to the comments, she revealed another detail from the night.

The couple who had been disrespected had their meal comped by the manager. She said she thought that was a nice gesture from the restaurant after the confrontation.

Did similar incidents occur at Benihana?

In September 2025, a fight broke out at the Benihana in Torrance, California. CBS Los Angeles reported that a worker allegedly threw a plate at a security guard after a manager asked the employee to leave. Customers and employees became involved in restraining the worker. Other diners, including families, scattered.

The story is a reminder that sometimes a routine dinner can turn into an unexpected spectacle.
