Things We Saw Today: The Avengers, Replaced By Their Canonical Genderswapped Counterpart Characters

Comics Alliance asked Chris Haley to draw this recast version of The Avengers, where every character is replaced by their canonical opposite gender counter part (from left to right: She-Hulk, Kate Bishop, Pepper Potts as Rescue, Maria Hill, American Dream, and Thor Girl) except Black Widow, who doesn’t have one.

Oh my god it’s the Jersey Shore Bat-family. From CBR’s always awesome The Line It Is Drawn.

Look at this. (TDW)

Technically wouldn’t Widow’s genderswap be Bucky?

Wait, wasn’t the Black Widow married to the Red Guardian, the Soviet Union’s answer to Captain America?

There are actually a few possible genderswaps for Black Widow— someone mentioned Winter Soldier, who is a similarly redeemed KGB superagent, but I think he’s a bit too much of a Captain America riff to count.  Red Guardian aka Alexi Shostakov is actually a supporting character in Natasha’s mythology, her (sometimes) dead husband, who succumbed to the machinations of the Evil Russian Overlords while Natasha withstood them.

And there’s the Wolf Spider program, explained in universe as the male equivalent of the Black Widow project.  The Wolf Spiders were never successful, though… and honestly, I always liked the fact that her codename is distinctly and specifically feminine, not easily flipped.

I’ve got that couch that the cat with the war hammer is sitting on! It’s beautiful.

I suppose they never made a “Black Widower”?

Didn’t Bucky die in the Captain America movie?

Yes, but he ‘died ‘ in the comics too, and its not like this movie is actually being made :P

As a guy in the audience, that fanfic was severely lacking. Less about cell phones and emails, more about having to stay inside the Reverend Mother’s box until she’s satisfied.

Black Widow was a female Spider Man analogue.

Though Dead Husband is the funniest thing I saw all day.

only partly true, she was turned into such after they had ended her femme fatale Iron Man villain phase.
There’s basically exactly 1 comic where she creates her wrist weapons as inspired by Spidey.

And then quickly moved on from that to being Daredevil’s partner and/or SHIELD’s best agent serving under Fury

yes, though since brainwashing retcons happened it’s unclear how true that is now.
It is certain that they were in some kind of relationship and she was either married, or brainwashed to think she was. As her backstory prior to brainwashing retcons (which make it that she was trained since before she’d be old enough to marry) was that the “death” of her husband (it later turned out that was faked [a retcon way b4 brainwash retcons]) caused her to enlist herself as a KGB spy as a way to honor his memory.
