Pennywise the Dancing Clown has been terrifying audiences for generations. But have you wondered where the demon clown who haunts Derry, Maine came from? Lucky for us all, a new prequel show promises to show us just how Derry came to be.

Welcome to Derry is set in 1962, 26 years before Bill loses his brother Georgie to the clown in the sewer. And it shows the last time Pennywise came to terrorize Derry. Decades pass between each haunting, forcing the adults of Derry to forget the horrors that come with Pennywise and getting to see how happened back before Georgie floated too is going to be amazing.

The series is described as follows: “Set in the world of Stephen King’s IT universe, IT: WELCOME TO DERRY is based on King’s IT novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films IT and IT Chapter Two.”

This time, the cast includes a wide range of actors who are not young teens, as the original films were. Which means maybe we’ll get to see a bit more of the adults of Derry interacting with Pennywise. The cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and, of course, our Pennywise, Bill Skarsgård.

Get out of Derry while you can

As soon as the trailer starts, a young man tells a driver who picked him up that he just wants to get away from Derry. That’s the epitome of what makes this story so terrifying. People want to flea Derry and get out of town and yet they’re dragged back into Pennywise’s traps.

The series is set to hit HBO Max this coming fall so right in time for us all to yet again be afraid of the dancing clown. At least the movies didn’t have Pennywise in the shower drain like Tim Curry’s take on him. Well…I hope Welcome to Derry doesn’t get any ideas.
