We’ve been hearing a lot lately about the presence of women, or lack thereof, on various ballots in various sci-fi literary competitions, not the least of which are the Hugos. Well, so far – in spite of everything, women are well-represented among award winners this season!
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America announced the winners of the 2015 Nebula Awards last night in Chicago, and of the six awards presented, women won five. Nicole Perlman shared her Ray Bradbury Award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation with James Gunn for writing the screenplay Guardians of the Galaxy, and the uber-talented Alaya Dawn Johnson won twice – for Best Novelette, and the Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy! It’s a proud day for women in sci-fi.
