Woman says this was the worst first date imaginable. Then she reveals the injuries she still carries every day: ‘I know I messed up’

California travel nurse Tracie Love, @tracie.love on Tiktok, is sharing a harrowing first-date story that left her hospitalized and permanently scarred, hoping her experience will serve as a warning to others. In a nearly seven-minute video posted on April 1, 2026, Love recounted the terrifying moments after she agreed to ride on the back of her Hinge date’s motorcycle, an experience that quickly turned into a nightmare on the interstate.
Love says she was hesitant to post the video but decided to speak out so it could help others. She described the accident in raw detail, explaining how she allegedly slid across the pavement, avoided being hit by an 18-wheeler, and suffered severe road rash, a head hematoma, and deep emotional trauma. She says that though she had no broken bones, her injuries required weeks of recovery that left her sidelined from work for over a month.
The story begins with Love allegedly matching with a man on Hinge while working a contract in California. She says that after a group hangout with friends, she found herself standing in front of his motorcycle. Despite her own lifelong warnings to others about the dangers of motorcycles, especially as a medical professional, she reluctantly agreed to ride with him.
Hindsight is always 20/20
“I put on the motorcycle jacket, I put on my helmet, and I get on the motorcycle,” Love recounts in the video. “I get on the freaking motorcycle. And trust me, you do not have to tell me and make me feel worse. I know this was stupid.”
According to her, the ride started off fun, but things took a turn when they got on the interstate. Love recalled seeing the accident unfold in slow motion before she was thrown from the bike. “All I remember is sliding on the pavement,” she said. “The first thought I had is, I’m alive.” She turned to see an 18-wheeler barreling toward her, honking as she crawled to safety.
Covered in blood and missing a shoe, she says he immediately thought of her date, who was sprawled further down the road. “I 100% thought he was dead,” she said. She ran to him, checked his pulse, and was relieved to find he was alive. He had suffered multiple fractures.
Meanwhile, Love’s own injuries were severe. She lost skin on her hand, suffered deep scrapes on her elbows and knees, and developed a large hematoma on the back of her head after her helmet came off during the fall. “I looked down at my hand, and my first thought was, I definitely cannot work as a nurse like this,” she said.
The pain from her road rash was excruciating, with dressing changes taking up to two hours each. She spent over a month recovering, unable to work, and still bears scars from the accident.
One shocking part of her story is how other drivers refused to help
Love says that while she was injured on the interstate, bleeding and trying to flag down assistance, cars continued passing by. “No one is stopping,” she recalled. “Everyone is just going.” Only one person pulled over to help, parking behind her date to prevent further accidents. The experience left her shaken, not just by the physical pain but by the realization of how vulnerable she had been.
Love’s video has resonated with hundreds of thousands of viewers, many of whom shared their own stories of dating mishaps or accidents in the comments. Some offered words of encouragement, reminding her that mistakes happen and that she shouldn’t blame herself. “Repeat this after me… ‘this is not my fault,’” one commenter wrote.
Another said, “We are so good at blaming ourselves. It’s easy to look back and say we should’ve known better. You’ve learned your lesson, and you have to live with the decision you made that night, but please don’t add guilt to it.” Others expressed shock at the lack of help from bystanders. “I hate this society, why didn’t people stop?” one person asked.
Love is on the road to recovery
Love herself acknowledged the trauma of the experience, saying she’s now in therapy to process what happened. She also admitted that the accident has made her wary of dating again, though she’s trying to move forward. “Dating someone else can’t be any worse than this,” she jokes in the video, then adding. “Yeah, it can be.”
Despite the pain and embarrassment, Love said she hopes her story will prevent others from making the same mistake. “I was excited. I did something I should not have done, and I learned my lesson,” she said. “If I can help other people out by sharing my story, maybe others won’t be as dumb as I was.” For now, she’s taking a break from dating apps, but she hasn’t ruled out trying again in the future, just maybe without the motorcycle rides.
