Chicago Woman’s Date at a Brazilian Steakhouse Left Her Almost Dead: ‘He Said that's a Waste of $50’ |

A first date at a nice dinner spot is supposed to establish chemistry, not become a brush with mortality. But for Chicago creator Karla, a recent Hinge date at a Steakhouse became a literal fight for her life.

In a video that has shocked over 12,000 viewers, Karla (TikTok/@itsvodkarla) recounted how her Hinge date turned tragic in a matter of seconds. Sadly, a minor dining mishap escalated into a life-or-death scenario for her. But the subsequent lack of empathy from her Hinge match left her completely dumbfounded.

A 12-ounce portion at a dark Brazilian steakhouse set a dangerous scene

The date started out normally enough at a dimly lit Brazilian steakhouse. It was complete with a live Spanish guitar player setting the mood. But Karla didn’t quite understand meat portions by the ounce and accidentally ordered a massive 12-ounce steak.

When the dish arrived, Karla immediately began struggling to cut into the exceptionally chewy meat. After a waiter brought her a second knife to replace a dull one, she finally managed to hack off a large piece.

Frustrated by the stubborn texture, she decided to put the entire chunk in her mouth with the intention of chewing it down halfway. “I’m just going to cut half of it like with my teeth and swallow half, and worry about the other half later,” she explained.

A dangerous swallow turned into a silent emergency at the steakhouse table

The shortcut backfired immediately when the unchewed portion of the steak lodged directly in Karla’s throat. The obstruction completely cut off her airflow, leaving her entirely unable to make a sound as she began to choke.

Desperate, Karla began signaling the universal “international SOS” choking sign to her date. Rather than springing into action to perform the Heimlich maneuver, the man simply watched her freeze up. As she nodded frantically for help, he looked at her and snapped, “Don’t you f***ing know how to eat?”

The creator saved her own life while her date watched in silence

Realizing she was completely on her own, Karla took matters into her own hands. She reached deep into her own throat, manually grabbed the trapped piece of meat, and pulled it out onto her plate.

Terrified and teary-eyed from the ordeal, she received no comfort from across the table. Sensing his immediate annoyance, she retreated directly to the restaurant bathroom so she could cry in peace without causing a scene.

Karla’s horrific experience at the steakhouse ended with a financial complaint

The absolute worst part of the evening occurred when Karla finally composed herself and returned to the table. Her date had completely finished his own meal and showed zero concern for her well-being.

Staring at her untouched plate, his only commentary focused entirely on the bill. “Well, that’s a waste of $50.” He completely ignored that his date had almost passed away ten minutes prior.

Karla wrapped up her viral story with a satirical warning for anyone navigating the current singles market. “If you’re wondering what dating looks like, it’s tough out here, girl. Make sure that they have CPR.”
