Woman refuses to share her phone number with a guy on a dating app, then she receives a text from him
What not to do when you are trying to date

Given how quickly situations can escalate on dating apps, people today must be more cautious. Miranda (sunshine.momma.rn) was also careful, but despite her efforts to set boundaries and stay safe, her experience became a prime example of the dangers that dating apps and the internet can pose.
In a TikTok video, Miranda said she matched with a man on a dating app, started messaging him, and at the end of their conversation, he gave her his number and asked her to text if she wished. She said she did not respond immediately but told him the next day that she wasn’t a firm believer in sharing phone numbers “right away.”
Miranda also listed the reasons why she didn’t do so. “So I put, like, number one, like, it protects me from getting unsolicited pictures… Like, I don’t want your pictures. And, you know, staying in the app, like, you’re not allowed to shoot pictures back and forth. So it just prevents that.”
She added, “And then number two, like, when you share your phone number, it links to a lot of other information that I’m not comfortable sharing because you are a stranger.”
The man appeared to honor Miranda’s wishes “initially,” but she said he later started bombarding her with his own information. This included his full name, birthday, address, and multiple email addresses.
Miranda said she believed he was doing all of this to make her feel comfortable, but then remarked that his intentions were not as good as she had initially thought. “Maybe it was meant to make me feel safe, like I could look him up, but also kind of, like, manipulative, because now, like, he thinks, like, he’s giving me all of his information. Like, I owe him my information, right?” she said.
Then, when she was talking with the man one day, Miranda said she received a text message on her phone from him that read, “hey, Miranda, since I found it out by myself, can we text now?” “I was so creeped out,” Miranda said before noting, “Like, I did not give this guy my phone number. I didn’t give him my last name.”
Miranda then emphasized how scary the situation is, stating that the man “took it upon himself” to “figure out exactly” who she was based on the first name she had provided on the dating app and from her pictures. “Figure out who I am, figure out what my last name is. Google my last name in the city I live in, because that’s obviously, like, public knowledge on this dating app. And find my phone number and obviously, like, my address and every other thing, too,” Miranda said, highlighting what other things she thinks he has figured out.
“Instant block!”
Miranda shared in her video that she felt so uncomfortable with the man’s behavior that she refused to go out on a date with him. She mentioned he made her “feel unsafe” and exceeded her boundaries “within two days of texting.” However, not all experiences on the platform are as negative. In August, a man gained TikTok fame after documenting how he asked a girl to be his girlfriend while giving her a handmade bookmark.
Some viewers in Miranda’s video’s comments appeared to agree. One user wrote, “Hi girl… Dude is a creep. Instant block! Report! Everything! You’re not overreacting! Stay safe babe!” Another said, “You are not overreacting! That is so creepy. I hope you report him on the app and block him.”
A few others spoke about the man crossing Miranda’s limits, a point she also raised in her video. One person commented, “He was letting you know that even if you tell him no, he’s going to do what he wants.” Another remarked, “He did exactly what you were worried about.” Several others echoed similar sentiments.
Unfortunately, incidents like Miranda’s aren’t rare. While she stopped the situation immediately when she realized the problem, some people don’t have the chance to do the same and might face even more dangerous outcomes.
