Woman hides in bathroom after date shouts and brags about beating someone up, then staff keep her safe as he demands she come to his car
An arcade date turns into an unexpected security operation.
An arcade sounds like a fairly low-stakes setting for a first date. There are games to play, snacks to share, and plenty of distractions if the conversation gets awkward. Unfortunately for one woman, the arcade date wasn’t all games and prizes. According to her Reddit post, her evening took such an alarming turn that she ended up hiding in the bathroom while her date demanded she come outside.
In a Reddit post shared with r/GirlDinnerDiaries, u/ladyrageofunluckland described how a seemingly decent outing with a man in his mid-30s deteriorated after they began discussing their views. The conversation took a turn for the worse when he allegedly bragged about beating someone up, then proceeded to yell at her when their perspectives clashed. Cue her emergency escape to the bathroom. By the end of the night, she said arcade employees and security personnel were helping her avoid him. The woman eventually made it home safely, but not before spending hours waiting for an opportunity to leave.
A first date takes a frightening turn
According to the Redditor, things initially went well. She had agreed to let the man pick her up, although she arranged to meet him several neighborhoods away from her actual home address.
The atmosphere reportedly changed when she asked about his political views. She said he began boasting about recently beating someone up and leaving them bloody in the street. He also took issue with her position that children cannot consent.
“This man was actually shouting at me that I have a coddled world view and have no idea what I’m talking about,” she wrote.
She stood up, politely ended the date, and retreated to the bathroom. The man allegedly began flooding her phone with messages, asking whether she’d left and demanding that she come to his car outside.
Her final response to him struck a cordial tone. She told him there were “no hard feelings” but that their differing views wouldn’t work in the long run. She also claimed she’d already taken a cab home. Her date reportedly continued messaging her, saying he thought she enjoyed arguing.
The situation sits in the same category as a different woman who escaped an unsettling date with help from a friend working a DoorDash shift. In this case, though, the Redditor was fortunate enough to find help from strangers working at the arcade.
Arcade staff step in to help
Still inside the bathroom, the woman asked another customer to find an employee for help. A server came to assist, then alerted the arcade’s manager and security team.
Although the building didn’t have the back exit she’d hoped to use, staff reportedly brought her to a closed section where she could wait. Security kept an eye on the man outside and eventually told her he’d driven away, approximately an hour later.
Even then, she wasn’t ready to leave immediately. “Dinner is fries and gingerale from the arcade while I continue to wait him out for a bit longer, just in case he parked behind a truck further down the block,” she wrote on Reddit.
Employees offered to call her a cab or have security escort her to her station. Later on, she updated the post to say she’d left the arcade, caught a bus, and arrived safely at her apartment building.
Her experience seems similar to that of a woman who passed a note to a waitress after believing she was being followed. Both accounts highlight the unexpected role hospitality workers can play when someone asks for help.
Reddit commenters were relieved the employees had taken her concerns seriously. “Glad the security didn’t dismiss her concern. Everyone deserves to feel safe while dating,” wrote u/GuessMyFavCat.
As for the arcade employees who helped her through the ordeal? They appear to have earned themselves a repeat customer, or at least some very enthusiastic feedback. “And yes, the arcade will be getting a 5 star review from me in a few days,” she wrote.
