Woman from Atlanta was alerted by Capital One for tipping 266% on a $15 meal. She didn’t tip this takeout order
She didn't think it was an accident.

Adrienne Wilson (@yoadriennesellshomes) bought a $15 takeout from a restaurant. Although she decided not to tip, Capital One allegedly informed her that she tipped 266% on her last transaction.
“As you can see, my total order was $15.01. The tip was $40, bringing my new total to $55.01,” Wilson alleged on TikTok. She showed a screenshot of the alert from Capital One, which states that her card was charged a total of $55.01.
Wilson said she went back to Nuevo Laredo Cantina to speak with the staff about the unauthorized charge on her card. “I came in on Sunday, I ordered soup, and I did a to-go order, which is why I did not leave a tip,” Wilson explained. She claimed she placed an ‘x’ on her receipt, indicating that she didn’t want to tip. Regardless, she was still allegedly charged an additional $40 by the restaurant.
The restaurant staff she was speaking with found her receipt. She allegedly muttered while scanning the receipt, “Lindsay, Lindsay, Lindsay.” The staffer excused herself, saying she needed to talk to the restaurant owner. She came back and told Wilson the owner wanted to speak with her, and Wilson agreed.
Wilson said the owner wanted to rectify the situation and apologized. He also hoped that the incident wouldn’t change her view of the restaurant. Moreover, the owner also offered a refund, saying they would resolve the issue immediately.
“Where he lost me was… He said that this was just an accident,” Wilson claimed. The owner allegedly asked whether she preferred to have a specific amount returned to her card. Eventually, he agreed to refund the $40 tip.
The tip fiasco was dismissed as an ‘accident’
“No problem, and I appreciate your willingness to help me, and that you want to take accountability for it. But I just want to be clear: this wasn’t an accident,” Wilson rebutted. However, the owner allegedly replied, insisting that it was a mistake.
“It was an accident, because sometimes, this stuff kinda just happens,” Wilson recalled the man’s response. However, she disagreed with his reasoning. “I didn’t leave a tip, and I put an ‘x’ in the tip space. Because again, I got takeout,” Wilson argued. She found it impossible for the restaurant to run her card for $40 when she didn’t intend to leave a tip. Even this man from New York City refused to leave a tip for his takeout order, only for the coffee manager to confront him about it.
“So, was that not scratched out on my receipt copy?” Wilson asked the staffer. She suspected her bill was tampered with, which would explain the additional charge on her card. However, the staffer didn’t say yes, hesitant to confirm Wilson’s suspicions.
“By her initial response, Lindsay changed. Immediately, she was able to identify that Lindsay messed up,” Wilson claimed. However, the restaurant owner continued to defend his employees. Regardless, Wilson was fully refunded.
“I typically do not look at my bills or receipts as they’re charged to my card, and I know I need to be better at that. Thank goodness that my bank actually catches mistakes like that,” Wilson said. But others aren’t so lucky with unauthorized bank charges. One woman from New York City said she was charged $300 for five months straight for an unused Pilates membership, only to find out when she checked her credit card statement.
