We Waited, We Wished, and Witchbrook Finally Delivered a Release Date
Grab your broom and your covenmates, because class is almost in session.

After what feels like several lifetimes of waiting, cozy gamers can finally mark their calendars. Chucklefish’s long-awaited witch life sim Witchbrook will launch on January 28, 2027.
The date was revealed during Nintendo’s Indie World showcase alongside a brand-new release date trailer. And no, we’re not dreaming. We checked. Twice.
For anyone who hasn’t been following along, Witchbrook has been in development for years. It was originally titled Spellbound, and it has picked up a reputation as one of the most patiently awaited games in the cozy genre. Delays have come and gone, the release window has shifted more than once, and this latest date does technically push the game into 2027.
Still, a real date beats a vague “someday” any day of the week.
Patience, tested
It’s fair to say the community’s patience has been tested. For every fan who has calmly waited with a cup of tea and a fully decorated Pinterest board, there’s another who has watched each delay announcement with the weary energy of a student whose professor keeps pushing the exam back. Wanting a game this badly is a gift and a curse.
That said, the frustration is mostly the lovable kind. People aren’t mad because they’ve lost interest. They’re mad because they care so much. When a game has lived in your wishlist this long, it’s inevitable to feel disappointed.
What’s waiting at the magical college
The new trailer gave fans plenty to chew on. It shows off the school’s ghostly Chancellor, magical town, spellcasting mechanics, and knowledge progression systems, and introduces a gothy new covenmate named Kiara Chandra. Fans of witchy aesthetics, rest easy: the vibes appear to be immaculate.
Co-developed with Robotality, Witchbrook is headed to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. Reports also point to four-player online co-op and a Game Pass launch, so you may not have to enroll alone.
Is it worth the wait?
That’s the million-dollar question, and we won’t know until we’re actually flying around campus on a cute broom. Anticipation this high is a double-edged sword, and any game carrying this much hype has a lot to live up to. But the early signs are promising, and the team clearly has a distinct vision for a charming magical world.
For now, there’s finally something concrete to hold onto. After years of waiting, wondering, and refreshing social media feeds for updates, the doors to Witchbrook are about to open.
Pack your cauldron, find your covenmates, and clear your schedule for January 28. If it’s anything like the wait, you’ll be there a while.
