Top defense officials are scrambling to explain the Paul brothers’ Pentagon visit. Their explanation is only raising more questions

The Paul brothers are not exactly who people expected to see at the Pentagon.

Jake and Logan Paul went to the Pentagon last week, met with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and addressed a room full of service members. Now the Department of Defense has released a video of the visit and offered an explanation for why the brothers were there, but it still leaves one pretty obvious question hanging.

Why were Jake and Logan Paul invited to the Pentagon in the first place? According to Task & Purpose, the Pentagon has not explained what prompted the visit. The department says the brothers toured the building, visited the 9/11 memorial, thanked service members and briefly met with Hegseth, but that explains what they did once they arrived rather than why they were invited.

The Pentagon says they were there to ‘meet with our warriors’

The Department of Defense announced the visit on Sunday with a video showing the brothers walking through the Pentagon, talking with service members and meeting Hegseth. The department’s social media account said it had welcomed the brothers “to meet with our warriors.”

The footage then shows Logan speaking to the group from a podium, where he called the tour a “cool experience” and praised the service members for their willingness to sacrifice for the country. Jake also spoke to the room, telling the service members that they mattered and encouraging them to be proud of what they do.

Task & Purpose reported that Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Joel Valdez said the brothers toured the Pentagon, paid their respects at the 9/11 memorial, thanked service members and briefly met with Hegseth. The outlet also reported that the Department said it was grateful for the brothers’ “continued support of our military.”

The problem is that none of that really answers the question of why them. The brothers have no military background, and the Pentagon has not publicly identified a specific military program, event or initiative that brought them there.

Task & Purpose also reported that Jake and Logan paid for their own transportation to the installation. That makes the visit particularly curious because it wasn’t just a quick photo opportunity, with the brothers instead receiving access to the Pentagon, meeting with the defense secretary and addressing service members.

Jake Paul was also meeting another cabinet secretary

The Pentagon visit was part of a larger Washington trip for the brothers. Task & Purpose reported that Jake Paul also met with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who shared photos from the meeting and praised Paul’s career as a content creator, entrepreneur and professional boxer.

There is also an established political connection between the brothers and the Trump administration. Jake Paul supported Donald Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign and appeared at a Trump rally in March, while Logan Paul interviewed Trump on his podcast before the 2024 election and both brothers attended Trump’s inauguration in 2025.

That history is relevant context, but it doesn’t establish why the Pentagon invited them. There is no public evidence in the reporting that their political connections were the reason for the visit.

The Pentagon has increasingly embraced relationships with celebrities, athletes and influencers. Task & Purpose noted that the department recruited service members to attend a UFC event at the White House this summer, while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has also publicly cultivated a relationship with musician Kid Rock.

The Pentagon has been open about what happened once Jake and Logan Paul arrived. The bigger question is what happened before that, and why the department decided to welcome the brothers into the Pentagon and put them in front of service members.
