This is in part good news because there’s a new, consumer-coveted option on the table and in part because its confirmation shuts down what feels like decades of rumor and speculation about a color option for a phone: Apple has confirmed that the white iPhone 4 is coming, and it is coming tomorrow.
The white iPhone 4 has seen many delays: The phone was first announced for last June, then pushed back to the end of 2010, then shuffled to this spring. One prominent rumor had it that the delay was due to a faulty camera-case interaction, since light leaked back through the white case and contributed to poor picture quality, especially for photos taken using the camera’s internal flash.
But hey (especially if you’re not an Apple fan): This is still just a pointless and stupid color update for some phone, right? Maybe so, but at least one analyst believes it has broader economic significance than for diehards: Ticonderoga Securities’ Brian White says that the white iPhone 4 will contribute to an Apple sales boom in China, “where white anything is popular … White is just a very desirable color there for all kinds of consumer electronics. It goes for both men and women.”

White iPhone 4 will be available for a suggested retail price of $199 (US) for the 16GB model and $299 (US) for the 32GB model with a new two year agreement through the Apple Store® (www.apple.com), at Apple’s retail stores, AT&T and Verizon Wireless stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers.
