Man pours Walmart frozen vegetables into pan, then finds what appears to be raw chicken mixed inside: “What in the cross contamination?” 

A Walmart shopper was preparing tacos when his bag of frozen peppers and onions appeared to come with one ingredient he definitely did not order: a chunk of chicken. What was supposed to be a convenient shortcut to dinner instead left him inspecting the bag and wondering whether he needed to get the Food and Drug Administration involved.

TikTok creator @barelyky said he was pouring Great Value Pepper & Onion Blend into a pan when he spotted what looked like a piece of uncooked chicken among the vegetables. “And then I see a piece of chicken come out the bag with pepper stuck to it,” he said, zooming in on the unexpected find.

The shopper pointed to what he described as residue coming from the chicken and showed that some of the vegetables remaining inside the bag appeared frozen together. He suspected cross-contamination and clearly needed to change his dinner plans. Who knew that “Great Value” meant getting a random piece of chicken as a freebie? 

Who wouldn’t chicken out from taco night with a surprise ingredient? 

“So I know the recalls at Walmart and Great Value are bad, but why?” @barelyky asked at the beginning of his video. He explained that he was about to make tacos when the apparent chicken made its entrance alongside the peppers and onions.

“You could tell this is uncooked ’cause look at that residue,” he said while examining the piece. When he reopened the bag, he also showed viewers vegetables that appeared to be frozen together and said, “It looks like there’s something wrong.” He isn’t the only Walmart shopper to recently find something unexpected in packaged food. One woman went to the ER after eating chips that were potentially tampered with. 

Whatever happened to the bag of peppers and onions, the experience seemed to end his appetite for at least one section of Walmart’s freezer aisle. “I’m never eating from Walmart ever again,” he declared. “I’m never getting peppers from them.”

His caption made it clear the initial shock had not worn off. The shopper asked viewers whether he should contact the FDA before summing up his confusion with one question: “What in the cross contamination!!!???”

Viewers debate the mystery meat

The video has attracted more than 20,000 views, with commenters offering theories, advice, and stories about their own unexpected freezer finds. Some advised him to buy fresh peppers and onions instead, while another urged shoppers to stop buying food from Walmart altogether. Frozen food has prompted other unpleasant surprises for Walmart shoppers, including one woman who opened two pizzas and found something that looked suspiciously like mold.

One skeptical viewer questioned whether chicken would even be processed in the same facility as the vegetables and suggested the bag looked suspicious. There is no evidence in the video establishing where the apparent chicken came from, but it is certainly the most annoying version of playing “odd one out.”

Other viewers had encountered less alarming edible stowaways in their frozen food. One recalled finding a french fry in a bag of frozen onion rings, while another said their peppers and onions unexpectedly came with peas and corn. Still forgivable, even laughable, unlike the piece of meat that hijacked taco night. Surprise appearances from bonus vegetables might be easier to shrug off, but mystery meat would make anyone chicken out from the original menu.
