Utah Woman Notices Her Car Has Been Tampered With. Then 2 Men Allegedly Follow Her to Costco and Suddenly Lock Eyes With Her: ‘Like He’s Close’

An open gas door doesn’t necessarily mean someone messed with your car. But finding one that you remember closing can still raise questions, especially when something else unusual happens minutes later.
Being concerned that someone is following you through a store can make those questions harder to dismiss. Still, suspicious behavior isn’t proof that someone has bad intentions, and that distinction matters here.
TikTok creator Morgan (@morg.rust) is warning people in Utah County after an experience in American Fork left her uneasy. She claims her family’s gas door was mysteriously open after leaving Lowe’s. Then they went to Costco, where she believed two men were following them.
Something Wasn’t Adding Up
Morgan had gone to Lowe’s with her husband and children to look for a new refrigerator. She described the parking lot as mostly empty. When they returned to their vehicle, her husband noticed that the gas door was open.
Morgan hadn’t noticed it herself, but her husband remembered it being closed. “That is really weird,” she recalled him saying. “Somebody messed with this.”
The family then drove to the nearby Costco. Morgan claims they noticed two vehicles, a Ford F-150 and a red Hyundai with an Idaho license plate. At Costco, her husband stayed near the entrance while Morgan continued farther inside with their children.
According to Morgan, her husband saw two men in their 20s enter shortly after them. The family continued shopping and didn’t see much of the men again until they were leaving.
As they passed the food court, Morgan spotted one of the men sitting without food and looking at his phone. She claims he noticed the family and then began heading toward the exit.
Morgan’s husband walked ahead of the cart while she pushed their children toward the exit. That’s when she realized the man was only a few feet away.
“I look to my left and this guy is like three feet away from me,” Morgan recalled. “Like he’s close.”
According to Morgan, they made eye contact, and the man stopped before moving behind her. He appeared to be heading back into Costco but instead remained near the entrance. Once the family reached the parking lot, they noticed the other man sitting in the red Hyundai on his phone.
Neither man allegedly approached or spoke to Morgan. She also offered no evidence that either had anything to do with the open gas door. Morgan acknowledged that she didn’t know what they were doing, but the situation still concerned her.
“If I was alone, like that could have ended up so much worse,” she said. “I don’t know what these people are planning or whatever.”
Having someone unexpectedly standing near your car after a shopping trip can be enough to make someone more cautious. Morgan ultimately encouraged people to pay attention to their surroundings.
Viewers, however, disagreed over whether the men’s behavior was actually suspicious. “You’re not paranoid just observant,” one person wrote. Another argued it was “better safe than sorry.”
Others thought there wasn’t enough evidence to connect the open gas door with the men. One commenter pointed out that neither approached or spoke to Morgan and warned against assuming their intentions. “Assumptions aren’t facts until they’re proven,” the viewer wrote.
One commenter claimed, “Someone posted about this same thing happening at the Saratoga Springs Walmart a couple months ago! A red Honda with Idaho license plate.” That account has not been independently verified.
There is no clear explanation for why the family’s gas door was open or whether the men were actually following them. For Morgan, however, the uncertainty was enough to make her warn others to stay aware.
