Trump turned to CNN’s crew at an Ohio rally, called them ‘fake news,’ then said Kaitlan Collins is ‘such an unhappy person’

During his second term, President Donald Trump has repeatedly clashed with members of the press, including several female journalists. CNN’s Kaitlan Collins has been among his most frequent targets, and Trump has commented more than once on her appearance and demeanor, particularly what he describes as her not smiling.
On Saturday, at a campaign rally in Ohio ahead of the November midterms, Trump once again criticized CNN and Collins, per videos circulated on social media. During his speech, he gestured toward the network’s press area and called it “fake news,” prompting cheers from the audience.
He then looked around at the crowd before turning his remarks to Collins. “She’s such an unhappy person. She’s a young, nice person, but she never smiles. She is a very unhappy person,” Trump said.
Collins isn’t the first female reporter Trump has singled out
Last November, Trump drew criticism after telling a female reporter “Quiet, piggy” aboard Air Force One. Women’s rights groups condemned the remark as a targeted attack on women, while Trump dismissed the criticism and some supporters, including family members, claimed people had misheard the comment.
Collins has faced similar remarks before, notably during her questioning about the Epstein case in February. When she asked what he would like to say to Jeffrey Epstein’s survivors, Trump responded, “You are the worst reporter. No wonder CNN… CNN has no ratings because of people like you.”
He continued, mentioning Collins and noting, “You know she’s a young woman.” Speaking directly to her, he added, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you smile. I’ve known you for 10 years. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a smile on your face.”
Collins didn’t respond to Trump at the time beyond noting that she was asking about sexual assault victims. She later addressed the exchange during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
In September, Trump also cut off ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott when she pressed him on his promised $5,000 “Trump dividend” for every American adult if Republicans keep control of the House and Senate in November. “Not you. Not you … Your network and you, you’re the worst,” Trump told Scott.
