Trump ignores doctors to pop massive 386-milligram aspirin daily, claiming it keeps him sharp after 35 years
Defying the rules

President Donald Trump’s criticism of CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins at a Saturday campaign rally in Ohio is just one of the many newsworthy moments this week. He also made other remarks at the event that drew widespread attention online.
One notable moment involved him seemingly discussing his aspirin prescription. In the context of Bayer opening a new pharmaceutical manufacturing and research campus in New Albany, Ohio, Trump said, “I love Bayer Aspirin. I take an aspirin a day. I don’t know if it works, but psychologically, I need it. It thins the hell out of your blood, I guess. I don’t know if it works or not, but I’ve been doing it for a long time. And here I am, making speeches…I like Bayer Aspirin, the little yellow. And I take the big one.”
He also appeared to suggest he disagrees with medical advice on dosage and said he takes his preferred amount. “You know, they want me to go down to the 80. I take the 386…They said, ‘Sir, you don’t need that.’ I said, ‘Do me a favor. I’ve been doing okay for 35 years. Leave me alone. I’ll switch to the little tiny one.’… I’ll switch to that little tiny thing, and then something bad will happen.”
He added, “They say, sir, ‘You don’t need that. You don’t need it.’” Speaking about how he handles such advice, Trump said, “‘Thank you, Doctor. I appreciate it.’ Then I order new…a whole brand-new stack of big ones. One of the few things I take is a bare aspirin.”
Trump’s comments about aspirin led to serious discussions in the comments
Given the highly public role he plays and his openness about his personal life, Trump’s remarks about his aspirin use drew online reactions. Some questioned the accuracy of his statements, noting that there is no 365 aspirin, while others highlighted potential side effects, especially the risk of bleeding from regular aspirin consumption.
One person wrote, “By the way there is no 386 Bayer Aspirin. Aspirin comes in 81mg, 325mg and 500 mg strength,” and shared a screenshot showing the same information. Another rebutted this claim by clarifying the issue, noting, “The number 386 is unrelated to his actual dosage and instead stems from the product’s regulatory National Drug Code (NDC) identifier, 49349-386, which distinguishes that specific package of enteric-coated, delayed-release aspirin tablets.”
One person wrote, “Well, for someone on an aspirin a day, he should have bled a hell of a lot more in Butler.” Another said, “He’s not good with numbers. He is probably taking the 325mg dose of aspirin daily. Easy bruising is a common and expected side effect of this medication, especially on the hands. The practice of taking a daily 325mg dose without a medical need is life-threatening, I’m told.”
The second comment refers to the bruising on Trump’s hands, which has been noticed more than once since last year.
