That New Tomb Raider Reboot Flick Locks Down 2018 Release Date

That Tomb Raider reboot starring Alicia Vikander (and not Daisy Ridley like we had hoped, but that’s okay) just got a release date set for March 2018. The Ex Machina actress is plenty busy, seeing as how she’s got five upcoming flicks coming out, not including Tomb Raider. The closest release is Jason Bourne, the (you guessed it) Bourne-series … reboot? Remake? Sequel? Whatever it is, it’s slated for release later this month. After that, Vikander’s releases include The Light Between OceansSubmergenceEuphoria, and Tulip Fever. According to IMDb, a lot of these releases are already complete or in post-production.

Tomb Raider is a hopeful reboot for the movie series based on Lara Croft, of the PlayStation Tomb Raider games. You’ll remember that Angelina Jolie was the first actress to bring Croft to life on the big screen not once but twice in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.

It’s said that this reboot coming up in 2018 is based on the popular video game reboot of the character and her story, which premiered with the release of Tomb Raider on PlayStation 3 back in 2013. That story can be thought of as a bit of a prequel, with a focus on a younger Lara as she comes into her own as an adventurer. If this movie can touch on even a small part of the solid story in Tomb Raider, then I daresay I’d be pretty darn happy with it.

But this is a video game movie, so I guess it pays to just be cautiously optimistic, hmm?
