‘This is insane’: Florida woman calls 911 on sanitation worker over truck noise and alleged assault, only for the to cops pull an uno reverse
She definitely didn't expect that to happen.
A woman reported a sanitation worker to 911 over the noise caused by his garbage truck while he was collecting trash outside her house and alleged that he assaulted her. Despite being the one to lodge a complaint, the woman was arrested by an officer for battery and trespassing instead.
Atlanta Black Star reported that the incident happened in Palm Beach County in Florida. A woman was at her home preparing for a work call when she kept hearing loud noise coming from a garbage truck. According to the woman in the body-camera footage, she repeatedly asked the sanitation worker to turn off his vehicle while the truck was stationary.
When the worker did not comply with her request, she eventually left her home and confronted the man downstairs. The woman claimed she “didn’t get in” the garbage truck, but “stepped up” to turn off the vehicle with a notch before she was pulled out by the worker by the arm.
She claims she was assaulted
The woman later alleged the worker had punched her in the face when she pushed him as he was pulling her down. Despite her claims, the woman showed no visible injuries and confirmed to the officer, who responded to a 911 report of battery, that she was not seriously harmed.
The worker, however, gave a different version of events. While he confirmed that he was pushed on the chest, he denied hitting the woman and claimed that she had entered the truck and hit herself as she was being removed from inside the vehicle. “She goes in the truck and shuts it off while I’m trying to load this truck up,” the worker said. “So I grabbed her and put her down, and she hit herself in the mouth… said I punched her in the mouth.”
In the video, it can be noted that the truck was raised high, and that it would be difficult for the woman to simply reach in and turn off the vehicle without getting inside first. The officer later surprised the worker when he asked if he wanted to press any charges against the woman for battery and trespassing on his property, which he eventually pushed through with.
The woman, who was already in handcuffs, was informed that she was being charged with simple battery. “He punched me in the face, and I’m the one that’s going to jail?” the woman said in disbelief. “This is insane to me right now. And nothing’s happened.”
Woman’s 911 call backfires on her
The woman argued that she didn’t enter the truck, but officers told her she was “lucky” she wasn’t getting sent to jail for stealing the vehicle instead. “He’s the victim? Are you guys serious? This is like a nightmare right now,” she said. In the end, the woman’s 911 call backfired on her. She was arrested on charges of battery to touch or strike and trespassing in a conveyance.
The majority of viewers in the comments sided with the worker; some even noticed the discrepancies in her allegations. “Girl if he punched you in the face you would have needed that ambulance,” one viewer wrote. Another added, “She will NEVER understand what she did wrong.”
Others couldn’t believe the woman’s entitlement to stop someone from doing their job. “Imagine feeling so entitled that you can dictate how much noise the garbage truck should be able to make…,” a viewer said. “The fact you went after the trash guy doing his job is insane lady.”
Under Florida Statute 810.08, a person who willfully enters a vehicle without authorization is a second-degree misdemeanor. Those found guilty of this can be fined up to $500, receive six months of probation, or serve 60 days in jail.
As for Florida Statute 784.03, a person can be charged if they hit someone or simply touch a person who did not consent to the act. This is a first-degree misdemeanor, with a fine of up to $1,000, 12 months of probation, or a maximum of one year in jail.
