Fans of Doctor Who were treated to a sneak peek at the upcoming season today, when BBC One aired the first teaser trailer during half-time at the World Cup Finals between France and Croatia. The 50-second teaser was brief, but it was more than enough to whet our appetite for the first female doctor. The trailer introduces us to the Doctor’s new team of companions, Graham, played by Bradley Walsh (Law & Order U.K.), Ryan, played by Tosin Cole (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Yasmin, played by Mandip Gill (Doctors).

In the trailer, we see the companions watching the World Cup, when traces of the Doctor whizz by them. The time lord steals Ryan’s breakfast sausage, replenishes Yasmin’s pizza, and swaps Graham’s newspaper for a copy of The Beano. A female Doctor who magically brings people free pizza? All of the yes. Eagle eye viewers will remember that very same copy of The Beano from Matt Smith’s Doctor Who season 7 episode 7 “The Rings Of Akhaten”. The teaser ends with Jodie Whittaker materializing and smiling directly at the camera.

Season 11 is set to premiere this fall on BBC America, starting with a feature-length episode followed by nine 50 min episodes for the season. Chris Chibnall (Torchwood) joins the series as showrunner and executive producer, taking over for Steven Moffat. The release of the teaser has everyone eagerly anticipating the Doctor Who panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic Con on July 19th. The panel will be the first Comic Con appearance of Whittaker and her fellow cast members, and it’s sure to be a hot ticket.

People are already taking to Twitter to share their excitement over the teaser:

What did you think of the teaser? Are you excited for the new season of Doctor Who?
