Texas Republican Bo French under fire for calling for the execution of political opponents, and not even his own party is supporting him

A recent CNN KFile report details an investigation into Bo French, a Republican candidate for Texas Railroad Commissioner in 2026. The investigation, which analyzed his social media activity over several years, uncovered several controversial posts (most of which have been deleted) calling for the execution of Democratic officials.
An article by The Guardian highlights that during the period when concerns about Russian interference in U.S. elections were prominent, French, while accusing the spread of false information from a now-suspended X account, called for the execution of former United States President Barack Obama and other Obama administration members. In an archived X interaction, French responded to a comment suggesting Obama orchestrated the election interference, stating, “The penalty for treason used to be death. Even for a former president,” accompanied by the hashtag “#HangEmHigh.”
Furthermore, in February 2025, from his current X account, which had a different handle name back then, French published a post advocating for the execution of Democrats, including Senator Adam Schiff. An archived Twitter exchange showed that, when responding to a comment about government spending issues during Obama’s presidency, French expressed, “I want more than perp walks. I want public executions.” In another archived social media exchange, while responding to a suggestion that Schiff should be imprisoned, French said, “No. I want to see public executions for traitors.”
French received flak from netizens recently over a contentious X post
French’s controversial comments are unfortunately not a thing of the past. Recently, he drew strong criticism after sharing a racist social media post, something Trump too did more often than one would like during his second term. On September 13, 2026, he posted a photo of people celebrating the Texas Longhorns’ victory over Ohio State. In his caption, he wrote, “I heard UT graduation this year looked like this. I didn’t believe it. The problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined,” seemingly referring to the presence of immigrant individuals in the photo.
As discussions about French’s remarks gained attention, some criticized him, including Republican lawmakers. Texas Senator John Cornyn said he would not support French in the upcoming election. According to ABC News, Cornyn told The Washington Examiner, “He’s an embarrassment to the Republican Party, and he’s going to drag the whole ticket down because of his racist comments.”
However, Cornyn showed little interest in voting Democratic, despite not wanting to support French. “I may just leave it blank,” he reportedly said.
