Streamer Pokimane abruptly ends stream after death of beloved cat, Mimi; the cleaners had allegedly left a door open
Popular streamer Pokimane has shared some heartbreaking news with her fans after abruptly ending a Twitch stream on Monday. After the sudden end to the stream, she returned and informed her fans that her beloved cat Mimi, whom she had had for eight years, had passed away after falling from the balcony.
In a clip from the stream, which was later shared on X and other platforms, Pokimane is seen covering her mouth in shock while presumably looking down at her phone. The streamer then walks out of the room for a few moments before coming back. Upon her return, she seems visibly upset as she says, “Guys, I’m so sorry. I have an emergency; I have to go.”
In a later stream, Pokimane would explain to worried viewers why she had to leave so suddenly, and the news was not good. “The emergency was that my assistant told me that they took Mimi,” she said, as she wiped away tears. “Apparently, the cleaners opened the balcony. I don’t know why, because we don’t usually clean the balcony. And [Mimi] went on the balcony… and she jumped.”
Pokimane’s cat died from the fall
Unfortunately, Mimi did not survive the fall. “I went ot the ER, and I went into the room, and I was waiting for the doctor, and when the doctor came in, I could just tell by the look on their face,” Pokimane said.
Viewers in the livestream offered their condolences and words of support to the streamer, who admitted she felt as though she was in shock. She struggled to hold in her emotions, bursting into tears at several points during the short stream and saying, “I can’t believe my baby is gone.” Mimi had been a part of her life for eight years, and the streamer had shared plenty of photos of her and her cat online.
Among the messages expressing their sympathies in the stream, some viewers suggested she take legal action against the cleaners for leaving the door to the balcony open. “Sue them for millions of f—ing dollars,” wrote one viewer.
Pokimane, who at one point was one of the most popular Twitch streamers in the world, later clarified in a post on X that she had previously cat-proofed every balcony she had ever had, but the building she was currently in had not allowed her to. She also claimed the cleaners had opened the balcony door to let a breeze in and didn’t close the screen door. A couple of minutes later, Mimi stepped out and fell.
Finally, she wrote, “As heartbroken as I am, I don’t want to blame anyone,” adding that it was a “freak accident.”
